A chill in the air and smiles on faces
The Lady generals soccer team began training this week. One of the coldest weeks of training I can remember, but it didn't bother the girls. The attitudes were great and the new team members were anxious to pass the ball around. Looking forward to getting the rest of the girls out on the pitch. Very early, so far so good.

Lady Generals in Dublin
The Lady Generals fell to the hosting Trinity Crusaders 4-0. The first goal came on a corner kick just seconds before the half. Keeper Augusta Guthrie stopped a PK earlier in the first half. The Lady Generals had few chances on the night, but defended quite well. The powerful Crusader offense was a great experience for our defense and they did not waiver as the shots kept on coming. Dressing only 12 on the night the Lady Generals played football for 70 minutes and did so honorably. Talisa Sampson received the "Red Plate" for hard work on the right flank all night long and the team gave the game ball to Guthrie for her presence in goal. The Ladies will take on the Terrel Eagles tomorrow morning. The Ladies will rise and take the pitch again in search for victory. I am looking forward to the match.

Let's Kick It!

Well it is that time of year again and the Lady Generals have taken to the pitch. I am excited as our season begins with the new faces that are wearing the blue the, the white, and the confederate grey. We opened up the JV season last weekend in Dasher with a loss followed by our first win against Berrien County. Eighth grader Caitlin Brown netted two for the the JV and Chelsea McCleod earned her first clean sheet.
The Lady Generals began the 2009 campaign in Dasher against crosstown region rival Valwood. The Lady Generals shared possession with Lady Valiants early, but chances turned into a goal when senior Samantha Sloan powered a low shot from the right to the far left post. Junior Greta Schmidt was there on the run, but no need.... Lady Generals up 1-0.
The Lady Generals would be welcomed in the second 40 by a Valwood goal that keeper Augusta Guthrie put a hand to but could not keep out of the net. The Lady Generals responded. Finding their shape and putting the proper weight on their passes the Lady Generals took over possession. Making a run down the right side Sloan controlled the ball and served as beautiful a cross as you could see at any level at sophomore forward Rachel Swilley. Chesting the ball out of the air and firing to goal Swilley had her first goal of the year, Sloan her first assist, and the Lady Generals were up by a goal. To put the match away Swilley would find the back of the net once more as Sloan squared another, this time a ground ball for Swilley.
It was wonderful football to watch especially this early in the going. Not always in the stats but always helping the coaching staff to sleep much better were our fullbacks on Thursday. Talisa Sampson, Erin Redshaw, Pamela Brown, and Rebekah Swilley held down that back line against Valwood and as long as that is the case we will stand chance for victory against any opponent. I would personally like to publicly applaud our girls for their toughness and physical play that I have been encouraging them in for the past 3 years. Many of them have matured in there attitudes and have a true desire to improve and help our team to be successful. We had a good session on Friday and will be game planning for Tiftarea on Monday. Please continue to support the Lady Generals as well as the rest of GCS athletics.
PS
I would also like to add that JV Girls represented the school well this Saturday morning at Valwood. Caitlin Brown found the net in the first match in a losing effort against St Johns and the Lady Generals came up short against Valwood in the second match. Dressing only eight on the day in the 8v8 format our girls are to be commended for not complaining and just going to play. I especially want to commend our young Ladies that competed eventhough were not feeling 100% (we on the team know who they are).

Title Town!
Today started as any normal Monday. Until I heard the buzz and read the e-mails around the office that Valdosta is TitleTown. It was a very hot afternoon at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium, but well worth it. Coach Lindsay Shea (won't be able to say that for much longer) took several pictures posted here. Maybe you will see yourself in them. Thanks to all who came in support and for Mrs. Alley taking the shot of us with the TitleTown trophy.

My deapest apologies

I am sorry for getting behind in posting information about our team these past few weeks. As many of you know I am still furthering my education and my studies have been very stingy with my time. I am glad that the semester is over and am excited to be able to devote more of my time to our squad. Look for more posts as we build up to our playoff match with Heritage.
